Our History
The Somaliland Youth Development Fund (SLYDF) was established as a national initiative to strengthen youth development, empower young innovators, and expand economic opportunities for young people across Somaliland. The idea for the Fund emerged from continuous discussions between government institutions, development partners, and youth organizations who recognized the need for a centralized mechanism to support youth empowerment.
Since its establishment, SLYDF has grown into a key national platform dedicated to promoting youth entrepreneurship, skills training, employment creation, and innovation programs. The Fund was built on the vision of enabling young people to become active contributors to the country’s economic and social development.
Over the years, SLYDF has expanded its programs, introduced new development initiatives, and strengthened partnerships with government, private sector entities, civil society, and international organizations. Through these collaborative efforts, the Fund continues to support thousands of young people with training, financial support, enterprise development, and opportunities for meaningful participation.
Today, SLYDF remains committed to advancing youth empowerment, building sustainable livelihoods, and contributing to the long-term development of Somaliland through inclusive, youth-centered development strategies.
